He was a descendant of Liu Zhang, Prince Jing of Zhongshan, is the first Emperor of Shu-Han. He started as a humble maker of straw sandals, and always dreamed of reestablishing the Han Dynasty. In that time, he vied for supremacy over the land with Cao Cao of Wei and Sun Quan of Wu. He found a sovereign state, Shu, and ascended the imperial throne in A.D. 221.
In the same year, however, Liu Bei was soundly defeated by General Lu Xun of Wu and struck down by an illness before achieving his ambitions, whereupon he entrusted his kingdom to Zhu Geliang's care. A man of great compassion!
